又要返工, 又要考試, 時間不夠用了...

Monday, December 15, 2008

Wah Yan Thanksgiving gathering

On Friday I went to Cupertino High School to play soccer with the Wah Yan boys. I think I have not played soccer for almost a year. We only had 11 people this time, but I still felt good to get some touch of the ball and scored some goals. At the beginning of the game I think my body was not able to withstand such heavy aerobic exercise. But I can see myself still in good shape and am able to provide some good move. Later I may go to join my friend to play soccer during the weekends, if I am not that busy.

After the game, I went to the Wah Yan Thanksgiving gathering at Stan's house. Many people still remembered me and asked how I have been doing in the past two years in UCSB and the current job. I have a long chat with Patrick during the night. He was so glad to see me and congratulated me to land such a great job. We also exchanged ideas on the global climate change, which he is now doing a research on this topic with heavy support from Stanford. He even went back to HKUST in the summer to teach a class for three months! I also had a long conversation with Oliver, who is the only one in the group doing accounting. I also helped Olive to collect money at the end of the night. I stayed until 11pm and went back afterwards. My arms and legs were so tried..

The start of the thanksgiving holiday

The thanksgiving holiday almost comes to an end, meaning that I have to go back to my work again.

I got a PTO on Wednesday since there was no assignment for me and that I wanted to visit Dr. Davidson before he retired. So I went back to the Foothill campus in the Wednesday morning. It was raining all day long and my clothers were all wet. Moreover, something happened that made my day memorable. After I finished parking my car, I realized I did not have enough change to pay for the parking fee. (Tha machine only accepts $1.00 bill!!) So I went upstairs heading to the bookstore to get some change. I got the money for the parking, but when I was running up the stairs again, I realized I lost my cell phone! "How could this happen?" I thought. I got to see Dr. Davidson, who was running a class at that time, and I told him that my cell phone was missing. I borrowed his cell phone and kept calling mine so as to see if anybody has taken it or if it is already at the lost & found. Unfortunately no one answered the phone, implying it should be still in somewhere without notice from somebody. I followed the route I took to the bookstore from the parking lot for a couple of times but I still could not find it. It was so annoying because I had to walk/run under the heavy rain! Finally, I got back to my car, which I have already searched it once before, in the parking lot trying to comfort and calm myself down. At that time I still had a strong belief that my cell phone had dropped out from my pocket in the parking lot instead of somewhere on the campus. "OK. Let me do this again." I left my car walking slowly to the parking machine while using Dr. Davidson's cell phone. Suddenly something on the floor catched my attention. I saw my cell phone lying on the ground on the way between the parking machine and my car! I was so lucky to get my phone back. Overall I spent 45 minutes to look for my cell phone!

After the incident I went back to see Dr. Davidson. I was again told to speak to the class about the UCSB accounting program. This time I also talked a little a bit about my career path which led me to land a job in KPMG. I was not the only alumnus on the day going back to say something; two others - one from UCLA and one from USC - also had an introduction on their schools. Eventually I stayed until the end of the class. Dr. Davidson invited me to be one of the judges for the ACCT 1B presentation in December, but I guessed I could not make it due to my tight work schedule during the month. Anyway it was nice to see Dr. Davidson. He planned to retire at the end of this quarter, but as far as I know, he will stay for one more quarter in Foothill. I asked him whether he will change his mind again, and his response was, "No way!" haha...
